Verplanten is het proces waarbij een zaailing of jonge plant van zijn oorspronkelijke vermeerderingsmedium naar het belangrijkste groeisysteem wordt verplaatst. In de hydrocultuur betekent dit meestal dat een ontkiemde zaailing in een steenwolblok of Rapid Rooter-plug wordt overgebracht naar een netpot gevuld met kleikorrels, kokosvezel of een ander ondersteunend medium. Verplanten stelt de wortels voor het eerst bloot aan de voedingsoplossing en markeert het begin van de belangrijkste vegetatieve groeifase.
