Steenwol (ook wel rockwool genoemd) is een inert groeimedium gemaakt door basaltgesteente te smelten en tot vezels te spinnen. Het houdt water en lucht tegelijkertijd vast, waardoor het een van de meest gebruikte substraten is in commerciale hydroponics en vermeerdering.
