根腐病

根腐病是由致病性水霉(主要是腐霉属和疫霉属)引起的植物病害,在积水或缺氧条件下侵袭并分解植物根系。受感染的根部变为棕色或黑色,变得黏滑,失去吸收水分和养分的能力。

  • Primary pathogens: Pythium and Phytophthora water moulds, often pre-existing in water supplies
  • Triggered by: insufficient dissolved oxygen, warm reservoir temperatures, and stagnant water
  • Symptoms: brown/black slimy roots, wilting despite adequate water, yellowing leaves
  • Prevention: maintain dissolved oxygen with air stones, keep reservoir below 20°C (68°F)
  • Treatment: beneficial bacteria (Bacillus subtilis, Trichoderma) can suppress Pythium
  • Hydrogen peroxide (3 mL of 3% per litre) can sterilise severely infected reservoirs
