L'argilla espansa (chiamata anche hydroton, LECA - Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate, o palline di argilla) sono piccole sfere porose prodotte cuocendo l'argilla in un forno rotativo. Sono un popolare substrato di coltivazione idroponica inerte che fornisce un eccellente drenaggio, aerazione e supporto fisico per le radici delle piante.
