Fogponics

Fogponics is an advanced variation of aeroponics where ultrasonic foggers or humidifiers create an ultra-fine nutrient mist (fog) with droplet sizes of 5–30 microns β€” far smaller than standard aeroponic nozzles. The tiny droplets penetrate deep into root tissue, enabling extremely rapid nutrient absorption and growth.

Key Facts

  • Droplet size: 5–30 microns β€” smaller than aeroponic nozzles (50–100 microns)
  • Ultra-fine fog penetrates root hairs directly, maximising absorption efficiency
  • Ultrasonic foggers are inexpensive but can deposit mineral salts and overheat reservoirs
  • High-pressure fogponics uses specialised atomising nozzles for commercial-scale operation
  • Produces some of the fastest root development observed in soilless systems
  • Sensitive to power interruptions β€” roots dry out very quickly without continuous fog
